The Heart Behind Event Planner Shi
Hi, I'm Shi, founder of Event Planner Shi.
Growing up in multicultural Malaysia, I was surrounded by different languages, traditions, and cultures. As a Malaysian Chinese, I learned early on that some of life's most meaningful moments happen when different worlds come together. Today, that belief inspires my passion for designing intercultural weddings where every tradition is honored, every family feels included, and every celebration reflects the unique story of the couple.
Wedding planning is deeply personal to me.
When I was 15, both of my parents left, and I unexpectedly became the primary caregiver for my three younger siblings. Home was no longer a place that felt whole. Perhaps that's why creating weddings feels so meaningful to me. Every celebration is an opportunity to help build the sense of family, belonging, and love that I know can transform lives. Designing weddings has become one of the most healing and joyful parts of my own journey.
For more than 12 years, I've had the privilege of designing weddings, conferences, nonprofit fundraisers, corporate events, TEDx experiences, and community celebrations. Every event is different, but my approach remains the same: listen deeply, design intentionally, and create experiences where people feel genuinely connected.
Whether I'm helping two families celebrate the beginning of a marriage, producing a conference that inspires hundreds of attendees, or bringing a community together around a shared purpose, I believe the most meaningful events are the ones that reflect the people behind them. My role is to transform ideas into experiences that leave people feeling seen, welcomed, and inspired.

Event Planner Shi is an Asian-, woman-, and immigrant-owned business founded on the belief that meaningful events bring people together and strengthen communities. Growing up as a Malaysian Chinese in a multicultural country shaped my appreciation for diversity, inclusion, and creating spaces where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and heard.
Those values guide every event we produce. We intentionally partner with local and minority-owned businesses whenever possible, prioritize sustainable event practices that minimize waste, and create experiences that celebrate our shared humanity. Whether producing She Dares to Rise , where women rise together through storytelling, or Dare to Strut: A Dog Runway Experience , which brings communities together through a shared love of dogs, my goal is to create events that leave people feeling connected.

From the very first day I met Shi, it was such a magical experience. A year ago I was invited to her first Women’s Day Conference. I was a little early, so I got to experience the grand event space at its glory and undisturbed. The colors, the edible centerpieces, the vendors and every space that was just specifically curated for each one of us. And we FELT IT! Undeniably so, I had to attend her second She Dares to Rise! I had moved out of state and with all the hustle and bustle of moving, I found a way to come back to Oregon all the way from Michigan. I also brought a few women with me, from different states and it was perfect. If you have not attended one of her events, which a lot of us have, you definitely should treat yourself. Because that is exactly what it is, a great treat!!! Looking forward to 2027!!!!!! Because I know it will be spectacular!!!!

Shi did an amazing job coordinating the Dare to Strut LA Fashion Show! As someone who has participated in and helped with fashion shows before, I know how much work goes into keeping everything organized and running smoothly. It's challenging enough with human models, but Shi successfully coordinated a show featuring both humans and dogs, and everything flowed beautifully.
The event was well organized, the atmosphere was fun and welcoming, and everyone seemed to know where they needed to be and when. My dog Bella participated in two designer showcases, and the entire experience was positive from start to finish.
